爵是汉族古代一种用于饮酒的容器。造型多为圆腹，也有个别方腹，一侧的口部前端有流，后部有尖状尾，流与口之间有立柱，侧边供手提拿的部分叫做（pàn）。大约在4300年前~3300年前，陶爵是人们生活中最常用的酒器，直到商周绝迹。铜爵，被认为是贵族使用的酒器和礼器，现知最早的铜爵在夏商之际，商代和西周早期是其流行期，到西周末年基本绝迹。千年后，金石学在宋代盛行，复古风日炽[chì]出现仿古爵。在明清时期发现有银爵、金爵、玉爵、瓷爵、掐丝珐琅爵杯。
史载，地位尊贵的人用爵，在古代天子分封诸侯时，赐给受封者的一种赏赐物。再后来“爵”就成了“爵位”的简称，“加官进爵”也就由此而来。
