光绪元宝是清代光绪年间特有的一种货币。有着清朝货币特征，由于当时时局不稳定，因此几乎在全国的各个省都有专门的货币铸造厂。因此我们会发现那个时代的货币上都有鲜明的铸字，标明是哪个省的造币厂铸造的。而江南省造光绪元宝是指清代光绪二十三年至三十一年(1897-1905年)由南京造币厂铸造的“光绪元宝”系列钱币，是清代正式铸行的法定流通银币。
但铸造江南省造钱币的清末，已无江南省建制。江南省设于清朝顺治二年（1645年），省府位于江宁（今南京）。清代的江南省前身是明朝的南直隶江南省，范围大致相当于今天的江苏省、上海市和安徽省。康熙六年（1667年）清廷撤江南省，分设江苏和安徽两个省。南京造币厂将其铸造的货币标明“江南省造”，是因为当时苏州已经有一个专铸机制铜元的造币厂，并且其铸造的铜元均标明“江苏省造”。为避免混淆，南京造币厂将其铸造的银币标明为“江南省造”。江南省造货币系我国货币史上唯一有名无实的省份货币。
此枚光绪元宝每元当制钱十文；正面中间是“光绪元宝”中心有两个满文，，下方为“每元当制钱十文”，左右分别是癸卯记年。中间由珠圈组成。背面，中间是一条飞龙，上方为英文，左右各一个玫瑰花饰，中间由珠圈组成。该币包浆厚实，工艺精湛，雕工完善，浮雕感强烈的品种，镜面平整平滑，经过岁月洗礼显得有些模糊，楷书文字书法极为精湛、大气，间架结构平衡舒展，在龙洋里首屈一指，是家喻户晓的罕见银币珍品，收藏价值和升值空间都值得期待。

Jiangnan Province in the Qing Dynasty was formerly Jiangnan Province in the Southern Zhili Province of the Ming Dynasty, roughly equivalent to the present-day provinces of Jiangsu, Shanghai and Anhui. In the sixth year of Kangxi's reign (1667), the Qing government withdrew Jiangnan provinces and established two provinces, Jiangsu and Anhui. Nanjing Mint will be its coins marked "made in Jiangnan Province", because at that time, Suzhou has a special casting mechanism of copper mint mint, and its copper coins are marked "made in Jiangsu Province". To avoid confusion, the Nanjing Mint marked its silver coins as "Made in Jiangnan Province". The currency of Jiangnan Province is the only nominal currency in the monetary history of our country.
