As the canal tides surge forward, a new journey begins, and youth pursue their dreams towards Yangzhou. Recently, the first phase of the "Youth Set Sail: Chasing Dreams to Yangzhou" summer internship program for Hong Kong college students was successfully completed after a week of practical experience. As one of the organizers of this event, the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO) created a professional, immersive, and diverse internship platform for Hong Kong students through various activities such as specialized lectures on the Grand Canal culture, one-on-one guidance from experienced mentors, and the planning of unique research and study itineraries.
Theoretical knowledge lays the foundation, while practical experience hones skills and seeks truth. During the week-long internship, the Hong Kong students approached their tasks with a rigorous and pragmatic attitude, as well as a youthful perspective full of innovation, dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to their work and delivering high-quality results. They thoroughly studied the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and independently planned and designed educational initiatives aimed at young people worldwide. Leveraging their creative design skills, they created logos related to the SDGs and made physical check-in boards using KT boards, presenting the abstract concept of sustainable development in a youthful and visually appealing manner that made it more accessible and easier to share. In addition, everyone actively participated in the online knowledge quizzes related to the SDGs to strengthen their theoretical foundations. They also listened attentively to the special lectures on the culture of the Grand Canal, systematically learning about the historical development, cultural heritage, protection and utilization of the canal, as well as its impact on urban development. This deepened their understanding and appreciation of the cultural value of the Grand Canal.

Strolling through the ancient streets and alleys of the city, students gained an in-depth understanding of the craftsmanship involved in these traditions. Through customized study tours organized by WCCO, they visited places such as the Ge Garden, the Yangzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Digital Scenario Innovation Center. There, they were able to fully experience the artistic conception of Yangzhou’s classical gardens, the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional intangible cultural heritage skills, and the innovative vitality of the digital culture and tourism industry. In this way, they gained a comprehensive understanding of Yangzhou’s unique character, which blends ancient and modern elements and is imbued with a long-standing cultural heritage.

During their internships, they applied themselves diligently, and their growth was evident in their written reflections. In addition to their practical experiences, the students made it a habit to review what they had learned, record their progress, and carefully maintain internship logs. They also completed specialized assignments to systematically organize and reflect on everything they had experienced and learned.

At the same time, they proactively record their journey from a young perspective, independently producing internship VLOGs. Through their cameras, they capture the landscapes of Yangzhou, document their daily experiences during the internship, and share their cultural insights. They use a youthful and modern media style to vividly tell the stories of the canal and spread the voice of the city of Yangzhou.
The first week of immersive internship came to an end amidst practical activities and intellectual exchanges. From planning educational events to conducting on-site visits to canal heritage sites, the students gained a deep understanding of the entire process of event planning. While celebrating their progress, they also took the time to reflect on their shortcomings in professional thinking and execution details. Leveraging the practical experience gained in the first week and the completed "problem list," the students prepared for the second week by fully engaging in the preliminary preparations for their research projects. They systematically refined their plans, aligned resources, and outlined procedures, ready to face more challenging practical tests.
